Chapter 286: Investigations and Auctions

Once Violet and Luna had settled into their rooms they did not do too much more that day. Instead they spent their time familiarising themselves with the Sirens Rest and its many amenities, after all they did need to play the party of rich and powerful Ladies to sell their plan.

So after a short reprieve they descended down the stairs to truly explore the grand establishment.

It was already late afternoon by the time that they arrived and was swiftly turning towards evening. As such they first decided to stop by the restaurant to taste what kind of cuisine was available for the upper crust of human society.

They were not left disappointed, the food easily matching that which they had back in the fancy restaurant in Craigkieth after their run in the colosseum.

After that they moved over to the lounge where they settled in to enjoy some fancy drinks. They had intended to try and approach some of the residents staying here that day but the lounge was particularly quite that evening leaving them to simply enjoy their time with no distractions.

It was the next day where they truly began to make their first in roads with their goals.

The morning arrived bright and early, a delectable breakfast later the two companions exited the hotel and made their way towards the central ring of the city.

Their goal for the day was quite simple, they intended to shop.

But that was only a single part of their plan for the day, they truly intended to spend money. A lot of money.

The reason for this was quite simple really, they intended to attract attention to themselves and what better way to do this in a positive light than to spend enough money to bankrupt most nobles?

They were already aware they they were being followed, they could easily identify at least 4 individuals tracking their every move since the moment that they stepped outside of the building. It was quite a challenge to escape the attention of a high leveled beast after all.

So whilst they were being followed they did not worry, the attention was not so much hostile as it was cautious and curious. They assumed that they had been sent by either the rulers of the city or a noble to scout out who the unknown beastkin that flaunted their strength and apparent wealth were.

The day progressed as such.

The ventured into the middle district, taking note of the much more subdued attitude of the guards by the gate. They did have a laugh when they noticed the guard that Violet had bullied the previous day flee into the nearby guard building upon noticing them.

From there the girls toured the various shops of the city.

From upscale clothing boutiques where Luna insisted Violet try out several outfits. To shops that sold all manner of magical artifacts and curiosity’s.

They found a number of fun and useful items in the latter. With Luna’s personal favourite being a item that instantly cleansed any and all dirt from the person activating it.

They also made sure to speak with and learn about the city from the attendants of these shops, learning more and more about the city as the day progressed.

It did not take them too long to learn about one of the major exports of this city, or to be more specific, the major export of the Sonantis family. That being dragon mounts, intended for use by both the military and for particularly rich nobles.

It took some effort for Violet to stay calm upon hearing about that, her blood felt like boiling and she had to restrain herself from instantly rushing out to rescue those dragons being raised here.

Still with Luna’s calming presence she was able to restrain herself and continue to learn more.

They discovered that the city Lord herself owned the dragon farm, otherwise known as the Sonantis Mount Emporium. She would regularly make trips out to the farm to observe the establishment which was operated by her brother on a day to day basis.

They also heard one particular bit of information that truly caught their attention, that being that their were rumours of a particularly large batch of eggs been laid recently.

Upon hearing that Violet swore that she would rescue those eggs from the clutches of the humans, refusing to allow them to be raised under the chain as would be their fate otherwise.

They did not learn much else of import past that, eventually returning to the hotel as evening approached.

It was here that they made their first acquaintance with one of the local nobles.

As they were waiting to be seated within the restaurant of the Sirens Rest a small group of well dressed young women entered into the establishment behind them.

Wether out of curiosity or something else the group of young mistresses approached the two and struck up a conversation.

At first they appeared to be as haughty and arrogant as what they had come to expect from nobles. However, they were pleasantly surprised when they discovered that in fact the girls were quite nice to spend time with.

Sure their was some awkwardness at first, but it ended up being resolved quite quickly when it came out that one of the girls, the seeming leader of this gaggle of nobles was quite fascinated by beastkin.

She openly admitted to having a fondness to their races, that extended to often trying to rescue some from their servitude. Saddly her reach in that aspect was quite limited, she was merely the 3rd daughter of a Barron, her standing was simply not grand enough to enact any meaningful change on society as a whole.

Still she was a noble and that did grant her some standing and insight. Insight that Violet and Luna happily discussed over their meal.

During the conversation the noble, Rose a petite red haired young lady invited the two companions to attend a grand auction that would be taking place the next evening.

It was to be a grand event if rumours were to be believed. Even attracting the attention of the City Lord herself.

And whilst not confirmed Rose had heard that their would be some kind of item or experience related to the dragon farm up for grabs.

Hearing this the two companions shared a rapid mental chat and swiftly agreed to attend.

So it was that the next evening Violet and Luna met up with Rose once again, this time she was not with her other noble friends but was being attended to by a maid. Said maid appeared to be a foxkin based on the orange fluffy tails and perky ears on top of her head.

The maid did a double take upon seeing Violet and Luna, two beastkin that appeared to have similar if not greater standing than her own mistress. A fact that she had never though possible before now.

So it was that Violet, Luna, rose and her fox attendant Kirstie walked through the city before arriving in front of yet another grand establishment located within the middle district, only this one was right besides the western gate and sat right next to the wall separating the two districts.
