Chapter 404 Karl Strikes Again
Chapter 404 Karl Strikes Again
Cheng Hai swiped through the data page with his right hand, while his left hand inadvertently pierced the protective film on the data panel: "Damn it, this claw!"
He's definitely not suited to be a monster!
He forced himself to concentrate. "So Carl thinks terrestrial humans are 'maladapted'?"
“Not only that,” Yu Yang’s voice was low, “he believes that hybrids like me are also sources of pollution. Only ‘pure’ new humans are qualified to inherit the Earth.”
An alarm suddenly went off at the medical center.
Ella checked the monitor screen: "Multiple high-speed moving objects detected in the deep sea! It's Carl's troops!"
Ryan immediately pulled up the holographic sea chart.
Five red dots are approaching the abyss from different directions, with a larger signal in the center—the controlled Leviathan.
“He’s found us.” Ryan’s expression hardened. “All personnel, prepare for defense. Activate the ‘Sea Squirt’ protocol.”
The staff acted swiftly.
Cheng Hai grabbed Yu Yang's right arm, carefully avoiding his left claw: "Old Yu, I need a weapon."
“Your condition is still unstable.” Yu Yang hesitated.
“I need something to protect myself,” Cheng Hai insisted, his eyes flashing with determination. “If that madman comes, I don’t want to be captured.”
Ryan retrieved a wristband device from the safe on the wall: "A bioelectric field generator. Not a weapon, but it can interfere with Karl's neural control system, giving you a chance to escape."
Cheng Hai clumsily put on the wristband with his right hand, his left hand clearly unsuitable for fine motor skills: "How do I use it?"
“Mind trigger. It activates automatically when you feel extreme danger.” Ryan turned to Yu Yang. “You must take Cheng Hai to the safe house. If the Abyss falls, use these coordinates to find other shelters.”
He transmitted location data to Yu Yang's communicator.
"Aren't you coming with us?" Yu Yang asked.
Ryan shook his head: "I'm Carl's number one target. It's safer to split up."
He hesitated for a moment, then added, "There's also something about your father. John Yu wasn't just a member of Project Noah; he was the only one who successfully created a stable hybrid gene sequence. Carl killed him because he refused to use the technology for military purposes."
Yu Yang's chest tightened: "So I really really am..."
"A blueprint for humanity's future." Ryan pressed a hidden button on the wall, and a secret door slid open. "Hurry! The passage will take you to an underwater canyon where there are fast submersibles."
Cheng Hai staggered after Yu Yang, leaving several scratches on the wall with his left paw.
The passage closed behind them, plunging them into darkness, with only the faint bioluminescence on the walls providing guidance.
"Do you think what he said is credible?" Cheng Hai asked in a low voice, "About your father?"
Yu Yang led the way: "Part of it is true. But I increasingly feel that the truth of this conflict is more complex than anyone has told us."
The passageway suddenly shook violently, and gravel fell from the top.
A muffled explosion could be heard in the distance.
"They've broken in!" Cheng Hai quickened his pace, his mutated left arm unexpectedly providing better balance. "Where does this damn passage lead?"
"The exit should be near the hot spring area," Yu Yang recalled the layout of Haiyuan, "We—"
A loud bang interrupted him.
The passage ahead collapsed, and blinding seawater sprayed in like a high-pressure water gun.
"Back off!" Yu Yang grabbed Cheng Hai and ran back, but the passage behind them began to collapse.
The sea level rose rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, it was above knee-deep.
Cheng Hai suddenly stopped and turned to one side of the wall: "Here! The ventilation duct!"
He tore open the metal grille with his left claw, revealing a narrow shaft. "You can climb up!"
The two squeezed into the pipe and climbed up just as the seawater was about to fill the passage.
The shaft led to a backup power station, and through the observation window, they saw that the abyss outside was in chaos.
Several spherical combat pods breached the outer defenses, releasing hordes of armed personnel.
They were not blue-skinned new humans, but ordinary humans wearing mechanical exoskeletons, with their eyes covered by vision enhancers that emitted red light.
"The bastards of the Eye of the Deep..." Cheng Hai gritted his teeth, "Karl recruited land dwellers as cannon fodder."
Most alarmingly, in the center of the battle group, the controlled Leviathan was tearing at the main protective dome of the Abyss.
Its once beautiful, glowing flippers are now equipped with weapon arrays, and each attack is accompanied by an energy explosion.
“Ryan is right, we have to leave.” Yu Yang located the small submersible at the energy station, which could only hold two people. “Let’s go through the east exit; it hasn’t been blocked off yet.”
As Cheng Hai climbed into the submersible, his left claw accidentally tore the seat: "Damn it! I can't control this force!"
“I’ll adapt.” Yu Yang started the engine. “Just like I adapted to gills, the brain has neuroplasticity.”
The submersible silently glided into the water and traveled along the edge of the underwater canyon.
Suddenly, Cheng Hai's wristband emitted a faint pulse of light.
“Something’s getting closer…” He glanced nervously at the sonar screen.
A massive shadow swept overhead. Leviathan! But it seemed oblivious to the small submersible, hurtling straight toward the abyss.
“Wait…” Cheng Hai frowned, “It’s… in pain. I can feel it.”
Yu Yang looked at him in surprise: "You felt it?"
"I can't quite explain it, it's like static noise in my head." Cheng Hai pressed his temples. "That creature didn't want to attack; it was forced. Karl's control system is torturing it!"
The submersible continued moving forward, away from the combat zone.
Just as they were about to reach a safe distance, a beam of red light shone from above, enveloping the entire submersible.
"Locked on!" Yu Yang pushed the control stick hard, and the submersible rapidly descended.
A tracking torpedo grazed the hull and exploded nearby, the shockwave capsizing the small boat.
The hull broke open, and seawater rushed in.
Yu Yang's gills immediately began to work, but Cheng Hai had not yet fully adapted to aquatic breathing and painfully choked on water.
To make matters worse, an attack submarine from the Deep Sea Eye appeared ahead, its weapon arrays charging.
“We can’t escape.” Cheng Hai struggled to say, his left paw unconsciously scratching at the cabin wall.
Yu Yang suddenly had a crazy idea: "Could your bioelectric field affect Leviathan? Like it interfered with Karl's control system?"
“Theoretically, there’s a chance, but it’s too far away,” Cheng Hai pondered.
"No, it's here!" Yu Yang pointed to the observation window.
The controlled Leviathan clearly sensed the battle and turned to swim towards them.
Cheng Hai closed his eyes and focused all his attention.
The wristband began to emit stronger pulses, synchronized with his brainwaves.
Yu Yang could see the blood vessels under his scales glowing blue, especially on his left arm, which was almost transparent and had intense bioluminescence flashing inside.
