Chapter 7 She's really petty.
Chapter 7 She's really petty.
The next morning, the ground was already covered in white. The servants got up early and cleared the path for their masters to take.
Qin Wan was having breakfast when the door to her room was pushed open from the outside, followed by a sob.
"Miss, I'm back. I heard you were punished, and I was very worried. After burying my father, I rushed back. Please forgive me!"
Qin Wan looked at Wanxia kneeling on the ground and her heart skipped a beat. She and Wanshuang had been by her side since they were young. Although they were maids, their food, clothing and daily necessities were comparable to those of young ladies from small families.
Qin Wan asked herself if she had ever mistreated them, but they had turned to the enemy when she was down on her luck. Although it was human nature to do so, they shouldn't have slandered her. She couldn't forgive them for this.
The sunset glowed with tears in her eyes as she gazed at Qin Wan.
She thought that her mistress would complain to her about the hardships of the past few days as usual, and then ask her for advice, but after kneeling for a long time, Qin Wan did not say a word.
Wan Shuang chimed in, "Miss, Wanxia is back. This servant was too foolish to make decisions for you, but now it's alright, you have someone to give you advice."
Following Wanshuang's words, Wanxia got up and went to Qin Wan's side to serve her.
“Miss, I’ve heard about this. Although it was your fault, Miss Yan’er was indeed the only one by her side when she fell into the water…”
"This matter is over, there's no need to mention it again. You've just gotten back, go change your clothes first!"
Qin Wan noticed her travel-worn appearance and immediately lost her appetite.
Wanxia was stunned for a moment; she had never seen her mistress so indifferent.
"Yes!"
After responding and leaving, Wanxia thought to herself: "I'm afraid Miss still feels wronged this time, and did it on purpose. Oh well, Miss always causes trouble. This time she's caused a big problem and suffered punishment, so she must be feeling uncomfortable."
Qin Wan's injuries hadn't fully healed, and despite the soft cushion under her bottom, she still couldn't sit for long. She only ate a few bites of breakfast.
A maidservant outside the door announced, "Miss, the young master has arrived!"
After the food was cleared from the table and tea was served, Qin Ye came in.
"Wan'er, how are you feeling?"
Qin Ye took off his cloak. He was the heir of the Pingding Marquis's mansion and the future successor to the title. With his burly figure, he was a head taller than Qin Wan when he stood in front of her.
Qin Wan looked at her older brother; this was the first time she had been in such close contact with him since her rebirth.
Qin Wan remembered that her older brother was usually very busy, but he would still travel hundreds of miles overnight to satisfy her cravings so that she could have a bite of freshly baked peach blossom pastry.
But even though her older brother doted on her so much, he would slap her in public for saying a few bad things about Su Yan'er.
Thinking of this, Qin Wan felt a pang of pain in her heart.
"Greetings, elder brother."
Qin Ye was stunned; such a cold greeting made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
The incident of Wan'er falling into the water at the Empress's birthday banquet was indeed a miscarriage of justice. She felt wronged, so let her be willful this once.
"Wan'er, your elder brother knows that your injury has not healed, and now that it has snowed, you can't go out of this room, so your elder brother specially brought this to you to help you pass the time."
As he spoke, Qin Ye took out a short white jade flute from his lower back.
The white jade was flawless and translucent, making it immediately recognizable as a fine piece.
However, Qin Wan recognized at a glance that this jade flute was not the same one as before.
Before this, Qin Ye had acquired a jade flute of even better quality. Qin Wan took a liking to it at first sight and kept pestering him for it.
She thought he would give it to her, but to her surprise, he said, "You are not as good as Yan'er in any of the arts, so it would be a waste to give this jade flute to you. It would be more appropriate to give it to Yan'er!"
She had been pestering Su Yan'er for several days without getting the jade flute back, but because Su Yan'er complimented her, saying, "This jade flute is really beautiful," she gave it to Su Yan'er.
Now, seeing himself being tortured, they offer him this inferior jade flute as a way of fooling him.
Qin Ye thought Qin Wan would like it, so he continued.
"After giving the last one to Yan'er, I had someone make another one, thinking that you would like it, so I sent it to you."
I know you can't play, so I even drew up the sheet music. You'll definitely be able to learn by following it!
Qin Ye expected Qin Wan to happily accept the jade flute from his hand, but Qin Wan did not react at all, and only said indifferently.
"Brother, I am inferior to Su Yan'er in all the arts, so it would be a real waste to give this jade flute to me. You should give it to Su Yan'er instead!"
These were the words he had once said to her, and now she was returning them verbatim.
This left Qin Ye stunned for a moment. He hadn't expected her to remember something that had happened so long ago. She really was petty.
After a long pause, Qin Ye felt the jade flute in his hand was getting too hot, and he even had the urge to throw it away.
Well, in the end, the drowning incident was a false accusation against her, so let's try to appease her a little more.
After letting out a long sigh, Qin Ye said again, "Wan'er, Yan'er already has a jade flute. This one is specially given to you."
"Brother, this item is extremely valuable, and I don't know how to play the flute. Thank you for your kindness, but please take the jade flute back!"
Qin Wan moved her body; her injuries hadn't healed yet, and every step she took aggravated her wounds.
Qin Ye frowned upon hearing this, already losing his patience.
"Wan'er, I know you feel wronged, but it was indeed your fault. You've been punished and apologized, so why can't we just be like before? Why are you still holding a grudge?"
Qin Wan was stunned. What? She was wronged, and she couldn't even get angry?
Are we supposed to greet you with a smile and say that you are very well wronged?
Qin Wan sneered. She had thought that her eldest brother, as the heir apparent, would be different from them, but now it seemed that they were all the same.
A belated apology is worth less than grass; I will not accept this kind of charity!
"I admit I was wrong, brother. What more do you want from me? Just because I didn't accept this jade flute, do I have to apologize for it?"
"You!" Qin Ye hesitated, the harsh words on the tip of his tongue, but he ultimately held back.
It's utterly incomprehensible. If she had even half the sense of reason of Yan'er, she wouldn't have ended up like this.
I was so foolish to think she had changed her temper. Father was right, she must not reveal that she had been wronged, otherwise she might cause even more trouble.
Qin Ye suppressed his anger, withdrew the jade flute he had extended, and turned to leave the room.
The snow felt icy cold on his skin. Before Qin Ye could even step out of the Wanyue Courtyard gate, the evening glow came running up behind him.
"Your Highness, Your Highness, please wait!"
Upon hearing the voice, Qin Ye stopped in his tracks. He recognized the voice as Wanxia, Qin Wan's personal maid.
Wanxia walked up to Qin Ye, curtsied, and said, "Your Highness, please calm down. Miss was in a fit of anger and talked back to you. Please forgive her!"
As she spoke, Wanxia's gaze fell on the jade flute in Qin Ye's hand, and she added.
"Actually, Miss is holding back a lot of anger. The young master knows Miss's temper. She will get better on her own in a few days."
Miss Yudi wanted it, but was too shy to ask, so she sent me to call out to the young master!
