Chapter 297 The Secret of the Tower and Endless Reincarnation
Chapter 297 The Secret of the Tower and Endless Reincarnation
Lily and the others moved cautiously toward the towering tower. The air was filled with an unsettling atmosphere. Every step seemed to be on the edge of a cliff, making them wonder what secrets were hidden at the top of the tower.
"Why does this tower look... a little wrong?" Apang suddenly stopped and stared at the wall of the tower with a frown.
Lily also felt something strange. The lines on the tower wall seemed to be moving slightly, like the skin of some creature.
"We have to be careful, this tower may not be just a building." Silver Wing said vigilantly.
They continued to move forward, each step was full of caution. As they approached, the environment around the tower began to change. A strange fragrance filled the air, making people dizzy.
"It's poisonous!" Shadow reacted immediately and covered his mouth and nose with his hands, "Don't inhale too much!"
Lily became alert and quickly took out a small bottle from her sleeve, which contained the antidote she had collected in other time and space. She distributed it to everyone, and everyone took a sip, and then they felt their heads cleared up a little.
"It seems that we have triggered some kind of mechanism." Lin Ye gritted his teeth, "There must be more traps in this tower."
"No matter what, we have to keep moving forward." Lily's eyes were firm. She would not back down because of these difficulties.
Finally, they arrived at the tower gate. The huge stone gate was inlaid with countless ancient runes, flickering with a faint blue light. Silver Wing reached out and touched the stone gate, and the runes suddenly glowed brightly, and a deep voice echoed in the air.
"Those who enter the tower must accept the test of time."
As soon as the words fell, the stone door slowly opened, revealing the dark and mysterious interior. Lily and the others looked at each other and walked in without hesitation.
The scene inside the tower stunned them. The space seemed to be infinitely extended, and there were constantly rotating time tunnels all around, each leading to a different fragment of history.
"We have to find the correct timeline." Silver Wing said calmly, "This may be the most important trial in the tower."
"But how do we know which timeline is correct?" Apang looked at the rotating tunnels anxiously.
Lily didn't answer, but closed her eyes and concentrated on sensing the surrounding atmosphere. She felt a weak but familiar power - the power she had sensed when she defeated the mirror image in the mist.
"Follow my feeling." Lily opened her eyes and pointed to one of the tunnels. "That road feels familiar. Maybe it's the right choice for us."
Everyone nodded in agreement and followed Lily into the time tunnel. As they moved forward, the scene in the tunnel gradually became clearer. They saw fragments of history - the struggles of ancient emperors, the fighting on the battlefield, and even scenes of the future that had not yet happened.
"These... are all fragments of time." Silver Wing whispered, "It seems that this tower records all the possibilities of the entire timeline."
Lily noticed that they actually appeared in these historical fragments! She saw herself fighting an enemy at a certain point in time, and even saw herself in the future standing on an unfamiliar battlefield, covered in blood.
"What does this mean?" Lin Ye also saw his own clips and his face turned pale. "Is this our future?"
"Perhaps, or perhaps it is just a possibility." Silver Wing pondered, "Time is not fixed, it is always full of countless variables."
Just when they were feeling confused, Lily suddenly saw a clip that made her heart beat faster - she saw herself standing on the top of the tower, and in front of her appeared a figure that looked exactly like herself!
"That's... me?" Lily was shocked. She had never seen such a thing before.
"Perhaps, this is the secret of the top of the tower." Silver Wing's voice was filled with complex emotions, "We may have to face the most unimaginable enemy - ourselves."
They continued to move forward, and at the end of the time tunnel was a door shining with dazzling light. Behind the door seemed to be the top of the tower they were looking for.
"Be prepared. No matter what lies ahead, we must face it." Lily took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
The moment they entered the door, the strong light almost made them unable to open their eyes. When the light gradually faded, Lily found herself standing in a wide circular square. In the center of the square was a huge clock, and the hands of the clock were slowly rotating.
"Is this... the top of the tower?" Lin Ye asked uncertainly.
"That's right." Silver Wing nodded, "This is the core of time."
However, Lily's eyes were drawn to another figure. She saw herself standing at the other end of the square, and that "Lily" was staring at her coldly, with hostility in her eyes.
"Finally." That "Lily" spoke, her voice as cold as ice, "Do you think that being able to control the power of time can escape the cycle of fate?"
Lily felt a chill. This "self" didn't seem to be a simple mirror image, but another version of the real existence.
"Who are you?" Lily asked, suppressing her inner uneasiness.
"I am you, or rather, you in another timeline." The "Lily" slowly walked towards Lily, and the air around her seemed to freeze with her steps. "You came here not to change your destiny, but to fulfill it."
"What do you mean?" Lily took a step back warily, holding the weapon tightly in her hand.
"Time is an endless river, and we are all part of this river." The "Lily" sneered, "No matter how you struggle, you can't escape the final outcome."
As they were talking, the "Lily" suddenly launched an attack, her movements were extremely fast. Lily responded quickly, and the two of them instantly fell into a fierce battle.
Their movements were almost identical, and every move seemed to be carved from the same mold. Lily felt a great deal of pressure, as she had never faced such a powerful opponent.
"You can't defeat me." The "Lily" sneered as she attacked, "Because we are the same person. Your weakness is my strength, and your strength is also my weakness."
Lily understood that there was no winner in this battle, because the opponent was herself. She had to find a way to break this balance.
Suddenly, Lily had a flash of inspiration, and she came up with a bold idea. She gave up defense and opened her arms to meet the opponent's attack.
"What are you doing?" The "Lily" was stunned and stopped attacking.
"You're right, we are the same person." Lily smiled, "But because of this, I know your heart better than anyone else. You don't want to kill me, but you want to be free."
That "Lily" was stunned, with a complex emotion flashing in her eyes.
"You are another me trapped in time." Lily continued, "We are both looking for relief, but killing each other is not the way to relief."
That "Lily" was silent for a moment and slowly put down the weapon in her hand.
"You're right." Her voice became low, "I... am tired of the endless cycle."
"Then let's end this together." Lily reached out and held the hand of "herself".
As the two held hands, the surrounding scene suddenly began to collapse. The square, the clock, and even the entire top of the tower disappeared in an instant.
Lily felt herself surrounded by a powerful force, as if she had entered an endless void. The figure of "herself" was gradually dissipating, but a glimmer of relief flashed in her eyes.
"Thank you..." Her voice echoed in Lily's ears and gradually faded away.
When Lily opened her eyes again, she found herself standing in a strange world and her companions were nowhere to be seen.
"Where is this?" Lily muttered to herself.
At this moment, a gentle voice sounded in her ears: "Welcome to the end of time, Princess Lily."
