Chapter 3 Intuition: I'm about to time travel!
Chapter 3 Intuition: I'm about to time travel!
"Sister, look! When it rains, the whole mountain is shrouded in mist. It's so beautiful! That ethereal and hazy feeling! I can't even describe it, it's just so beautiful!"
Lin Lanshan stopped and took out her phone to take a picture.
Lin Chunyi also stopped and gazed intently at the mountain:
The floating clouds are not as high as this mountain; the mountain mist is so thick that it is hard to see clearly.
The entire mountain was shrouded in mist formed after the rain, quiet and indistinct.
It took the Lin sisters more than an hour to reach the top of the mountain. When they arrived at the familiar two-story house, they stopped by the vegetable garden outside the yard and excitedly began to wail:
"Grandpa, grandma!"
The sudden sound interrupted the quiet scene, startling the little dog in the yard, who barked loudly.
"Woof woof woof," what are you doing? It's already annoying enough that it's raining and gloomy, and you're scaring the dog too!
Less than a minute later, two elderly people rushed out of the house, their expressions of surprise and joy barely concealed. They were the maternal grandparents.
Grandma said with heartache:
"Why did you choose to come today when it's raining? You didn't even call us first. Your grandpa and I would have come to pick you up." He grabbed the two sisters' hands and led them into the house.
The two sisters chuckled a few times.
"I thought you two had forgotten about your grandparents." Grandpa's lips twitched down, looking unhappy.
"Grandpa, no way! We're planning to stay here until you get tired of it. By the way, Grandpa, did we plant watermelons this year? Are they sweet? And how are those two peach trees doing this year? I really want to eat some! Fruit in Qincheng is so expensive, I never get to enjoy it."
When Grandma heard this, she happily went to make the bed.
Grandpa snorted, grabbed a vegetable basket from the kitchen, and went to the vegetable garden to pick melons.
"I'll just pick a small, not very tasty watermelon for you. I'll keep the big ones for myself to eat slowly... Hurry up and follow me. The peaches are over there on the stone path, go pick them yourselves. I'm so old, and I still have to take care of my granddaughter."
In the end, Grandpa chose the biggest watermelon, the one that made the loudest sound when tapped.
With a "pop" as the knife cuts into the watermelon rind, it splits open, revealing bright red, juicy flesh, a thin rind, few seeds, and a refreshing aroma that fills the nose.
Lin Lanshan thought about how sweet the watermelons her grandfather grew were, and wondered if she could collect the seeds and bring them back to Qinhuangdao so her parents could plant them in styrofoam boxes, so they could harvest lots of sweet and crisp watermelons next year.
"Hey, Lanshan, just leave the trash on the table, I'll clean it up later," Grandma said, stopping Lin Lanshan as she swept a handful of melon seeds and headed for the bathroom.
She quickly came up with an excuse, not wanting them to know her new bottom line when it comes to food.
"I'm not going to throw them away. I'm just going to wash them and think I'll stir-fry them to see what stir-fried watermelon seeds taste like."
Her grandmother and sister were both looking at her.
Grandpa glanced at her too: It's good that they're not wasting anything...
Lin Lanshan: I'm broken... I might as well just say so.
I stayed at my maternal grandparents' house for half a month and ate five watermelons and dozens of peaches.
Lin Lanshan also received a jar of carefully selected watermelon seeds and dozens of beautiful peach pits.
During our time on the mountain, we spent our days eating, drinking, and playing, which made the little dog lose its sense of direction.
They also pulled weeds and dug holes in their grandparents' vegetable garden.
Then we went to the pond and skipped stones, and used a cannon to flip the fish over, which meant we had covered the whole mountain.
Finally, satisfied, I returned to my grandparents' house.
"Lanshan, your high school has sent a notice that classes will start earlier, so military training will also be moved up. You must report to the school within half a month at most."
For Lin Lanshan, having to return to Qincheng Prison to prepare for school when summer vacation was only halfway over was simply a nightmare! The early start of school meant her vacation was cut by a quarter?
Instantly, I felt a deep resentment towards the school I hadn't even "met" yet.
"This is so sudden! I haven't had enough fun yet. My sister and I agreed to go visit the old house in a few days. Hmm... could you buy tickets for next week? We can go back four or five days early, that should be enough time. Let's buy train tickets, okay? Thanks, Dad!"
Mr. Lin checked the train tickets, looked at the departure date, bought tickets for six days later, and transferred 500 yuan to each of the two sisters so they could buy some food for the journey.
"Sis, I don't want to go to school. I want to stay in our hometown and have some fun." Lin Lanshan pouted, on the verge of tears. "I'd rather travel back to ancient times and farm."
"Stop, let's forget it. I'm sober now. I don't want to transmigrate into the palace, to that kind of place that eats people alive. Just the two of us, one of us will definitely be in the Imperial Laundry, and the other will be executed. It's too terrifying." Lin Chunyi quickly shook her head.
"The palace is much better than the remote mountains and forests you imagined. You can have whatever you want and whatever you don't want."
……
The air suddenly froze for a few seconds.
"Sis, I don't know why, but I have a hunch. I mean, it's possible, maybe, probably, possibly, perhaps, we really will time travel? Like, on a train, we just end up traveling to ancient times?"
For some reason, after uttering the word "time travel," Lin Lanshan began to have a very strong feeling:
It really is possible to time travel.
Upon hearing this, Lin Chunyi began to get goosebumps.
Time travel? No way! What era is this? This is all supernatural and bizarre stuff, and it doesn't even conform to the laws of time and space. How could I possibly travel through time?
When the train arrives at the station and the conductor opens the door, will we step out into ancient times? That sounds more plausible than what my sister said.
No, the most reliable thing is to get off the train normally, arrive in Qincheng, and see your parents!
"Spit it out, stop talking nonsense! You're the one who time-traveled! You time-traveled alone! I'm not going. We're neither literate nor martial, we haven't even created a spatial dimension, and the system is nowhere to be found. How could we possibly time-travel? Did God go to all this trouble to send us to be food?" Lin Chunyi was no longer as excited about time-traveling as she usually was.
I slapped my sister on the head to stop her from being a jinx.
However, a sense of urgency swept over the two of them at the same time, making them realize that they had to prepare supplies as soon as possible.
After all, Lin Lanshan, although she usually seems silly, has had an absurd persona since she was able to speak—I have a gut feeling about it.
She had only said this twice before today:
At age 3, after multiple earthquakes struck, she became irritable that morning, saying that her home was in danger and insisting that her parents take her out.
My child is 7 years old. Two days before the global outbreak of pneumonia, he started having a fever and cough. He said that this illness would be very serious and asked his parents to buy more medicine.
So many years have passed since we last heard her speak of it, and everyone has gradually forgotten about it.
And today is the third time!!!
But this intuition is so ridiculous; no one would believe it if I told them. If word got out, she'd be dissected!
Perhaps she just developed a side effect from reading farming novels recently?
Time travel is practically impossible in reality. But what if it were to happen... then we must make some preparations now, we can't just go there and wait to die!
As for the possibility of soul transmigration... well, there's nothing we can do about it, we can only accept our bad luck.
