Chapter 52 Meeting the Indigenous People
Chapter 52 Meeting the Indigenous People
The journey back to the train was very peaceful, except that it was a bit difficult to find your way in the fog.
Su Li glanced at the compass on her watch; the compass seemed to be on fire, refusing to stop.
Looking up, the fog was several meters higher than it had been at 6 o'clock, and I couldn't see anything.
"The fog is getting thicker and thicker..."
Su Li muttered.
The three returned to the car and put all the collected supplies back in.
“Visibility is a big problem… If we get lost, we won’t know how to get back.” Su Li felt the problem was a bit tricky. “It’s certain that there are monsters here. Once we are attacked and separated in the fog, it’s easy to get lost.”
“We can only stay here for 7 days. After 7 days, we have to leave and go to the transit station. If someone is left behind, we will definitely have to come back next week to continue looking for them, which will slow things down.”
The siblings thought of a solution, but couldn't come up with any highly feasible ideas.
“Let’s stay in the city more. There are all kinds of buildings in the city, so at least we can use the buildings to help us find our way. If we’re in the wild, it’ll be very difficult to find our way back if we lose our way,” Ivan suggested.
“That’s one way… I remember when we first came in, the city’s phantom was on the right side of the track, so let’s head to the right.”
After deciding on a method, Zurich started the train.
There were only some houses around, nothing worth exploring. Zuli's treasure chest sensor hadn't detected anything either. Instead of searching through these houses, it was better to head straight for the city.
The train proceeds along the predetermined track. With the preset function, Zuli only needs to decide which fork in the road to take next.
Outside, there was a rolling fog, and nothing much to observe, so Su Li and the others stayed there to read and cultivate.
With the help of the secret food, Su Li and the other two are making rapid progress in their magical energy cultivation. Su Li estimates that their strength will advance to the Black Iron level in the next two days.
"The place is still a bit small. It would be great if there was a place to practice," Su Li said with some dissatisfaction.
The factory offers a training room option, but the minimum requirement is gold ingots, and a lot of them are needed. Zuli can't afford them.
Although he couldn't afford it, that didn't stop Su Li from thinking this training room was awesome, because the things it required were incredibly outrageous. Not only did it require 200 units of gold ingots, but it also needed five elemental crystals, which were the next level of materials for elemental fragments. All of this indicated that this was an amazing item.
Zuli believed that this thing was most likely an extraordinary structure, and even imagined it possessing powerful abilities such as double experience points.
Following the pre-set procedure, the train made two turns before entering the underground.
Upon entering the underground, Zuli discovered that the surrounding fog had vanished instantly, leaving only concrete walls all around.
"It went down about 4 meters in height, and it felt a bit like a subway track," Sofia said.
"Yes, does that mean the train will move like a subway after entering the city?" Su Li guessed. "Does that mean we can only stop at subway stations?"
They stopped halfway through, with concrete walls on both sides and dirt outside the walls, making it impossible to get out.
The train missed its designated location and traveled several kilometers before finally finding the first subway station. Zurich pulled the brakes, and the train came to a stop.
The train doors opened, and Su Li and two others, fully armed, stepped off.
Sophia looked around, then raised her longbow and aimed it in one direction. "Come out!"
Sophia's clear voice rang out in the empty subway station, but there was no response. Ivan stood in front of Sophia, shield raised, ready to activate his magical shield at any moment.
Zuli looked in the direction Sophia was pointing. There was a water barrier there, the kind you often see when roads are being repaired. It's plastic, 2 meters high, and can be used as a partition when filled with water.
Below the water-filled barrier, you can see a strap commonly found on backpacks.
Under Zuli's gaze, the ribbon moved slightly.
"Hey, stop hiding, your backpack is showing," Su Li shouted at the man.
That's when the strap was pulled in.
A few seconds later, a young man and woman with Western features emerged from behind the water-filled barriers, smiling obsequiously and raising their hands.
Seeing that Sophia was holding a bow, the man visibly relaxed and said, "Brother, don't be so tense."
Su Li quickly glanced at the two men. They were dressed in summer clothes, with nowhere to hide weapons. Their only weapon was a baseball bat studded with nails.
Both of them looked pale and sickly.
"Raise your hands and turn around," Su Li commanded.
The two of them obediently spun around once.
“No gun,” Sofia said in a low voice.
"Alright, put down your weapon." Su Li tried asking, "What's your chat ID, bro?"
"Huh? A chat room?" The young man was taken aback, then said, "Is it some kind of survivor support group?"
【Indigenous people?】 Su Li narrowed her eyes and sent a friend request to the person opposite her.
[Target not a player, request failed.]
They really are indigenous people. Su Li understood immediately, and then tried to get information out of them: "Are you here to collect supplies too? Where are you from?"
"We came from the stadium," the man answered truthfully. He had no choice; someone was watching with a bow and arrow, so he dared not remain silent.
"The stadium? Isn't that far? How did you get here?" Su Li continued to ask. As for the stadium being far away? He made that up.
"Sigh, this thick fog has lasted for over a month, and we've lost all our water and electricity. Last night, the fog suddenly disappeared, so we decided to go out and find something to eat. But this morning, the fog came back out, and we're stuck here now," the man said dejectedly.
“Similar to us,” Su Li chimed in, “except we live in the countryside. We were trapped there for a long time and only came out when the weather cleared up.”
Do you know what happened? Why did it turn out like this?
"I don't know either," the man said, and the woman hesitated.
Sofia looked at the woman. "What do you know?"
"I...I'm not really sure either. I just heard some things, like someone opened the gates of hell and released the monsters out of hell."
The woman spoke haltingly, but managed to finish her sentence, "Didn't they say it was the end of the century? Many people say the gates of hell will open..."
"That's just a lie the newspaper made up to boost sales!" the man suddenly said impatiently. "You keep bringing this up, it's so annoying."
"But the fog has appeared, hasn't it? Thor said they were going to the city center for a ritual to summon Hell, but Thor has disappeared and isn't replying to messages on his pager."
“I already told you, it’s a lie. They’re just a bunch of bored people online who get together under some pretext to eat and drink, and then go to a hotel to have sex!” The man said impatiently. “In this situation, saying things like that will only make things worse and cause you to break down in fear. Listen to me, stop thinking about this. I’ve been under a lot of stress for a long time.”
Su Li imagined being trapped at home by a dense fog that lasted for a month, with someone constantly saying in her ear that it was the devil's magic, that the gates of hell had been opened, and that it was indeed a lot of pressure.
After being lectured by a man, the woman stopped saying anything.
Su Li and the siblings exchanged a glance, and then Su Li asked, "Have you ever seen a monster?"
The man replied, "I haven't seen any monsters, but I have seen packs of wolves."
The woman was about to say something, but the man glared at her.
"Don't stare. Let this lady tell you what she found," Su Li asked.
"I... I didn't find anything. I was just guessing, could it be the legendary minions of the Wolf Lord?"
"Wolf Lord?"
“Yes, the Lord of Wolves, that’s a local legend. It’s something like a monster that rules over wolves, but I don’t know the specifics. I’m just here to attend university,” the woman continued.
"Alright, I got it. You can go now. Remember to be careful; not everyone is as kind as us."
Watching the couple leave, Su Li turned to the siblings and asked, "Ivan, what do you think?"
