Chapter 379: An Adventure in a Mysterious Town
After leaving the castle, Liu Yu and the others continued their journey through this mysterious and dangerous world. Along the way, the scenery was picturesque, with verdant mountains and clear waters complementing each other beautifully. A gentle breeze rustled the wildflowers by the roadside, releasing their fragrance. However, they had no time to appreciate the enchanting scenery, for unknown challenges could arise at any moment, and everyone was on edge.
"Oh dear, my legs are about to break from all this walking! When can we find a place to rest properly?" Pigsy complained incessantly as he walked. His chubby face was covered in sweat, as if he had just been pulled out of the water, with beads of sweat rolling down his cheeks and dripping onto the ground beneath his feet.
"Bajie, you're such a troublemaker. Just hang in there a little longer," Xiaoqing said, rolling her eyes at him. Xiaoqing's face also showed some fatigue, but her eyes remained firm, and the bell in her hand swayed gently, making a crisp sound.
As they were talking, a small town appeared ahead. The sign at the entrance of the town read "Qiqu Town" in large characters, the handwriting crooked and distorted, exuding a unique charm.
“Hey, there’s a town where we can go and rest,” Liu Yu said. A hint of anticipation flashed in his eyes, hoping that the town could bring them some surprises and relaxation.
As the group entered the town, they found it bustling with activity. Various stalls lined both sides of the street, the vendors shouting loudly, trying to attract the attention of passersby. But everyone wore a strange expression; some were excited, some puzzled, and some looked utterly helpless.
"This place feels strange," Bai Suzhen said softly. A hint of wariness appeared on her beautiful face, and her hands unconsciously tightened around her sleeves.
They arrived at an inn, and as soon as they entered, a waiter greeted them. The waiter had a professional smile on his face, and his eyes were narrowed into slits.
"Gentlemen, would you like a meal or a room?" the waiter asked with a grin, his voice high-pitched and thin, sounding somewhat grating.
"Give us a few superior rooms first, and prepare some good wine and food," Liu Yu said. His voice was steady and powerful, revealing an unquestionable aura.
"Alright, sir, please wait a moment." The waiter said and ran off, moving as fast as the wind, almost bumping into a pillar next to him.
Soon, the food and wine were served. The table was laden with a sumptuous spread, the aroma of which was irresistible. Pigsy's eyes widened at the sight of the delicious food, and he immediately grabbed a chicken leg and began to devour it.
"Bajie, eat slowly, no one's going to take it from you," Liu Yu said helplessly. He looked at Zhu Bajie wolfing down his food and couldn't help but shake his head.
Just then, the guests at the next table suddenly started arguing.
"You liar! You clearly said this stuff could grant immortality, but it didn't work at all for me!" a burly man said angrily. His face was flushed red, and the veins on his neck bulged like wriggling earthworms.
“Oh, brother, the effect varies from person to person, please wait a little longer,” another tall, thin man argued. A sly smile played on his lips, and his eyes darted around; he was clearly not an honest man.
Liu Yu and the others looked over curiously.
"What is all this nonsense? They're even trying to fool people here," Xiaoqing said. Her voice was clear and melodious, with a hint of disdain.
At this moment, the innkeeper came over and said with a smile, "Please don't be offended, gentlemen. This is a common occurrence in our town." The innkeeper's face was full of smiles, but the smiles looked very fake, like he was wearing a mask.
Liu Yu asked, "Boss, what exactly is going on?"
The shopkeeper smiled mysteriously and said, "In our town, all sorts of strange and unusual things are often sold, like elixirs of immortality and magical treasures, but most of them are scams." As he spoke, the shopkeeper kept rubbing his hands together, as if he was hiding something.
Everyone found it amusing.
After finishing their meal, Liu Yu and the others decided to go for a stroll in the streets.
As soon as they approached a stall, the stall owner greeted them enthusiastically, "Gentlemen, take a look at my treasure, boots that can make people teleport instantly." The stall owner's eyes gleamed with greed as he went on and on about the boots' amazing features.
Upon hearing this, Pigsy became interested: "Is it really that amazing? I'll give it a try." He couldn't wait to put on the boots, and as soon as he took a step, he vanished in a flash.
"Oh dear, where did Pigsy go?" Xiaoqing asked anxiously. She looked around, her face full of worry.
After a while, Pigsy finally crawled out of a latrine in the distance, stinking as he said, "What kind of lousy boots are these? They dragged me, old Pig, into the latrine." He was covered in excrement, and the stench was overwhelming, causing everyone around him to cover their noses.
Everyone laughed so hard they were doubled over, and tears were almost streaming down their faces.
As they walked, they came across an old man selling a pet that supposedly could understand human speech. The pet was strangely shaped, resembling a winged rabbit.
Liu Yu asked curiously, "Can this pet really understand human speech?"
The old man said confidently, "Of course, you can try it if you don't believe me."
Liu Yu said something to the pet, but the pet didn't react at all and even pooped on Liu Yu's feet.
"What is this?!" Liu Yu exclaimed, both amused and exasperated. He looked helplessly at the poop on his feet, unsure of what to do.
After wandering around the town, Liu Yu and his friends discovered that although it was full of all sorts of bizarre scams, it was also full of joy. Everyone was striving for their dreams or desires, and even if they were being scammed, they still enjoyed it.
That evening, everyone returned to the inn to rest.
In the middle of the night, Liu Yu was suddenly awakened by a commotion. He got up to investigate and found a group of people arguing in the inn's lobby. The noise was loud and jarring, like a flock of ducks quacking.
It turned out that several guests had gotten into a dispute over a so-called "invisibility cloak".
"I clearly saw this cloak first!" a guest exclaimed, his face flushed and his eyes wide.
“You’re lying! I got it first!” Another guest retorted, clutching the corner of the cloak tightly and refusing to let go.
Liu Yu shook her head helplessly, just about to go back to sleep, when she suddenly heard a cry for help outside. The sound was shrill and tragic, sending chills down her spine.
He opened the window and saw a woman being chased by several burly men. The woman's hair was disheveled, her clothes were torn, and her face was filled with terror.
Liu Yu immediately rushed out and blocked the group of burly men. His figure appeared exceptionally tall and imposing in the moonlight, like an insurmountable mountain peak.
"What are you doing?" Liu Yu asked loudly. His voice was full of anger, and his eyes revealed a sense of authority.
"Mind your own business, this woman stole our things," the burly man said. Their faces were fierce, and they held sticks in their hands.
The woman cried, "I didn't, they're framing me." Tears streamed down her face, and she looked very pitiful.
Liu Yu sensed something was amiss and decided to investigate. After some investigation, it turned out that the burly men had tried to steal the woman's family heirloom. It was a jade pendant, crystal clear and quite valuable.
Liu Yu taught those burly men a lesson, making them slink away. The woman was extremely grateful.
"Thank you for saving me, young master. I have no way to repay you," the woman said. Her voice was gentle and melodious, like the song of a nightingale.
"It was just something I did to right an injustice; don't worry about it, young lady," Liu Yu said. His smile was as warm as the spring sunshine.
The next day, Liu Yu and the others prepared to leave the town.
As soon as I stepped out of the inn, I saw a group of people gathered together. Laughter and exclamations of surprise could be heard from the crowd from time to time.
They squeezed through the crowd and saw that it was a self-proclaimed master who could predict the future setting up a stall. The master was dressed in strange clothes and wore a tall hat with several feathers stuck in it.
"Master, please tell me when I'll become rich?" a man asked. His face was full of expectation, and his eyes gleamed with greed.
The master pretended to calculate with his fingers and said, "You will definitely have good fortune in three days." His voice was deep and hoarse, sounding very mysterious.
Liu Yu and the others smiled, shook their heads, and left the town.
"This town is really interesting, but we still need to keep going," Liu Yu said. His gaze was fixed firmly ahead, his heart filled with anticipation for the future.
The group continued on their way, unaware of what other hilarious events awaited them ahead...
